Updated Royal Enfield Himalayan 440 Returns to India, Sells Out Within Weeks

Royal Enfield has brought back the original Himalayan formula to India with the updated Royal Enfield Himalayan 440. The adventure motorcycle returns three years after the Himalayan 411 left the market, but it now gets a larger and more capable engine along with several mechanical updates.

Royal Enfield launched the Himalayan 440 at Rs. 2.29 lakh ex-showroom, making it a more affordable alternative to the Himalayan 450.

The motorcycle has received a stronger-than-expected response from Indian buyers. Demand has been so high that Royal Enfield has already filled its production allocation for the next six months and temporarily stopped accepting new bookings.

Royal Enfield Himalayan 440: Price and Features

The Royal Enfield Himalayan 440 costs Rs. 2.29 lakh ex-showroom and comes in a single variant. It gets three colour options: Mustang Brown, Sela Black and Nelong White. The motorcycle retains the familiar design of the original Himalayan 411, but Royal Enfield has added several updates to make it more capable and easier to use.

The biggest update comes in the engine department. The Himalayan 440 uses a 443cc single-cylinder, long-stroke engine that produces 25.4 bhp and 34 Nm of torque. It comes with a six-speed gearbox, giving it an additional gear compared with the old Himalayan 411. The motorcycle also gets electric start and electronic fuel injection.

The Himalayan 440 uses a 21-inch front wheel and a 17-inch rear wheel. It gets 200mm of front suspension travel and 180mm at the rear. Ground clearance stands at 220mm, while the seat height is 800mm. The bike weighs 199kg with 90% fuel and oil, and it has a 15-litre fuel tank.

Royal Enfield has also equipped the bike with a new LED headlight, a digital-analogue instrument cluster, Tripper navigation and a USB Type-C charging port. Braking hardware includes a 300mm front disc and a 240mm rear disc with dual-channel ABS. The rear ABS can be switched off for off-road riding.

The Himalayan 440 keeps the simple mechanical character that made the original Himalayan popular. At Rs. 2.29 lakh, it also sits below the Himalayan 450 in Royal Enfield’s line-up. Its combination of a familiar design, larger engine, long-travel suspension and relatively accessible price has helped the motorcycle attract strong demand soon after its return.
