Car company Renault is currently developing a new electric vehicle (EV) for Indian customers, specifically a small electric car named the Renault Kwid EV.
Reports indicate that the company plans to launch this model soon. The Kwid EV has already been spotted during testing on Indian roads and is expected to be based on the globally sold Dacia Spring EV.
The launch is anticipated by late 2025 or early 2026, marking Renault’s first mass-market electric car for India.
So, lets know about this electric car in detail.

Renault Kwid EV: Expected Design
The upcoming Renault Kwid EV is expected to closely resemble its internal combustion engine (ICE) counterpart, featuring a closed front grille.
Spy shots reveal Y-shaped LED daytime running lights (DRLs), a full-width LED light bar, and a muscular bumper inspired by the new-generation Duster. The rugged design elements, including squared wheel arches, body cladding, and steel wheels, suggest that there will be multiple trim levels, including budget-friendly variants.
In terms of dimensions, this EV will be similar to its ICE sibling and will share characteristics with the Renault Dacia Spring, which is already available in the global market.
Renault Kwid EV: Powertrain
Renault is likely to adopt the powertrain from the Dacia Spring EV, with two motor options expected: a 33 kW variant that generates a maximum power of 44 hp, and a 48 kW variant producing a maximum power of 65 hp.
Both options will deliver 125 Nm of torque and be powered by a 26.8 kWh lithium-ion battery. The anticipated range is approximately 225 km (WLTP), making it ideal for urban commuting.
Charging options will include AC home charging (estimated at 11–13 hours) and a 30 kW DC fast charging option (charging from 20% to 80% in about 45 minutes).
Renault Kwid EV: Features
Inside the cabin, the Renault Kwid EV is likely to feature a 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a 7-inch digital instrument cluster, along with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility.
Premium touches may include USB Type-C ports, vehicle-to-load (V2L) functionality, and advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS), such as lane-keeping assist and emergency braking, although reports suggest that ADAS features will be available only on the top variant.
For safety, the vehicle is expected to come equipped with six airbags, electronic stability control (ESC), and hill-start assist, depending on the trim selected.
Renault Kwid EV: Expected Price and Rivals
The Renault Kwid EV is expected to be launched at a starting price of Rs. 7-10 lakh (ex-showroom).
This pricing positions it as one of the most affordable EVs in India, directly competing with models like the Tata Tiago EV (starting at Rs. 7.99 lakh), MG Comet EV (starting at Rs. 7.36 lakh), and Citroen eC3 (starting at Rs. 11.99 lakh).
With its established global platform and localized production, the Kwid EV has the potential to be a game-changer for budget-conscious EV buyers in India.
