VinFast Appoints Founder’s Son as Global CEO Amid Overseas Expansion

VinFast has appointed Pham Nhat Quan Anh, the eldest son of founder Pham Nhat Vuong, as its new global Chief Executive Officer. The 33-year-old executive will take charge as the Vietnamese electric carmaker prepares for its next phase of growth.

Quan Anh will also remain Chairman and CEO of VinFast Vietnam. His appointment comes at an important time for the company. VinFast is working on a major restructuring plan and is looking to expand in overseas markets, including Southeast Asia and India.

The company is also trying to reduce its future capital requirements as it continues to report losses.

Pham Nhat Quan Anh Takes Charge

Quan Anh became Chairman of VinFast Global in May 2026. He will now take overall responsibility for the company’s global operations. His father, Pham Nhat Vuong, will continue to remain on VinFast’s board after stepping down as CEO.

Quan Anh has previously held several senior positions at VinFast and other companies under Vingroup. He studied at Singapore Management University and currently also serves as CEO of VinMetal, Vingroup’s steel business.

VinFast said the leadership change will help the company enter a new phase of growth. The company is targeting markets such as Southeast Asia and India as it works to increase its global presence.

The company is also moving towards a more asset-light business model. Under its restructuring plan, manufacturing assets worth around $530 million are expected to be transferred to a buyer group that will also take on about $6.9 billion in debt. The move is aimed at reducing VinFast’s future capital needs.

VinFast’s India Plans

India is becoming an important market for VinFast. The company recently changed its strategy and is working on two EVs designed specifically for Indian buyers.

The upcoming models are internally known as VF X and VF Y. VinFast is discussing the plans with Indian suppliers and wants to control costs from the early development stage.

VinFast has already invested heavily in its Indian operations and wants the country to become a regional manufacturing hub. The company currently sells the VF 6 and VF 7 in India and is looking to expand its product range.

What Happens Next?

The leadership change comes as VinFast faces both growth opportunities and financial challenges. The company reported a nearly 42% increase in first-quarter revenue but also posted a wider net loss. Founder Pham Nhat Vuong has continued to provide financial support to the company.

With Quan Anh now leading global operations, VinFast will focus on overseas expansion, restructuring and new EV launches. India is expected to remain an important part of this strategy.
