What is Pollution Under Control Certificate (PUC)?

Pollution Under Control Certificate (PUC)certificate is an official document which certifies that the vehicle is completely fit to drive in public places. It is issued after examining the smoke emitted from vehicles running on petrol, diesel and gas.

This certificate is issued when a vehicle does not pollute more than the standards set by the government. PUC certificate is mandatory for all vehicles.

It is mandatory for you to have a valid PUC while driving on the road. Any traffic police officer can ask you for PUC certificate. If you do not have a valid PUC, legal action can be taken against you under Section 190(2) of the Motor Vehicle Act.

How to make Pollution Under Control Certificate (PUC)?

Step-1: To get PUC certificate made, first of all you have to take your vehicle to the fuel station or RTO office of the testing center.

Step-2: Here the test will be started by checking the emission levels from the ejection pipe of your vehicle. Let us tell you that for PUC you will have to go to the testing center every time. It cannot be made online.

Step-3: To check the emission level, you will have to start the vehicle and accelerate it.

Step-4: Once the test is done accurately, PUC reading will be found on the computer screen.

Step-5: After this the operator takes a picture of the registration number plate of the vehicle and then the PUC certificate is generated.

Step-6: After this you have to pay for the certificate and then you can get the pollution certificate.

For PUC certificate you may have to pay Rs 60 to Rs 100 depending upon the state in India.

How to Download Pollution Under Control Certificate (PUC) Online?

If you ever lose the Pollution Under Control Certificate (PUC) by mistake, do not worry, you can also download it from the transport portal.

For this, first of all go to the vehicle transport portal and click on the option of PUC certificate from the menu bar. Here enter the vehicle registration number, chassis number and code and click on PUC details. After this you will see the PUC certificate of your vehicle, which can be saved by clicking on the download button.

For how long is PUC certificate valid?

For information, let us tell you that PUC certificate is valid for a limited period and it has to be made again and again. The validity of PUC certificate for a new car or bike is 1 year. After that you have to get PUC certificate made every 6 months. For this you will have to go to the petrol pump having emission testing center and get your vehicle tested again.
