Yamaha Tenere 4 Concept Revealed: New 400cc ADV Takes Shape

Yamaha has revealed the new Yamaha Tenere 4 Concept ahead of EICMA 2026, giving a first look at a smaller adventure motorcycle positioned below the Tenere 700. The concept uses a newly developed single-cylinder engine and a new chassis designed for a lightweight and agile riding experience.

Yamaha has not yet confirmed the engine displacement, power, weight, price or production timeline. However, the name and engine configuration suggest that the motorcycle could enter the 400cc-class adventure segment.

The Tenere 4 targets riders who want a lighter ADV for both off-road riding and long-distance touring.

Yamaha Tenere 4 Concept: Design

The Yamaha Tenere 4 Concept follows the rally-inspired design language of the larger Tenere 700. It features a slim body, tall windscreen, high-mounted front mudguard and a flat, rally-style seat. The motorcycle also gets a low and flat fuel tank, wide handlebar and full-wrap handguards.

Yamaha has developed a new frame for the concept, with the company focusing on low weight and agility. The bike rides on 21-inch front and 18-inch rear spoke wheels fitted with Michelin Anakee Wild tyres. KYB suspension at both ends and generous ground clearance further highlight its off-road focus.

Yamaha Tenere 4 Concept Powertrain

The Tenere 4 Concept uses a newly developed single-cylinder engine with liquid cooling. Yamaha has not confirmed its exact displacement, power or torque figures yet. The motorcycle’s name suggests a 400-class engine, while some reports have pointed towards a displacement around 400-430cc.

However, Yamaha has not confirmed either figure. The new engine aims to deliver strong low- and mid-range torque while retaining the ability to rev freely. Yamaha is also developing the motorcycle around Europe’s A2 licence requirements, which points towards a potential output of up to around 47.6 bhp. The production specifications could differ.

Yamaha Tenere 4 Concept: Hardware and Safety

As a motorcycle, the Tenere 4 does not have a cabin, but its rider-focused equipment gives it a clear adventure-tourer character. The concept features a large vertically oriented display designed around rally-style navigation, along with a flat one-piece seat and an upright riding position.

KYB suspension, spoke wheels and knobby tyres should make it suitable for demanding trails. The motorcycle also gets a large skid plate and handguards for off-road protection. Yamaha has not announced its electronic safety package yet, so features such as traction control, riding modes or cornering ABS remain unconfirmed for the production version.

Yamaha Tenere 4: Price and Rivals

Yamaha has not announced the Tenere 4’s price or launch date. If it enters the 400cc-class ADV segment, it could compete with the Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 and potentially other upcoming lightweight adventure motorcycles. Yamaha has also not confirmed an India launch yet.
