Hyundai Ioniq P Name Trademarked in India
Hyundai Motor India has trademarked the Hyundai Ioniq P name in India, indicating its plans to introduce a new compact electric SUV under the Ioniq brand. The upcoming model will become Hyundai’s most affordable electric vehicle in the Indian market and is expected to launch in January 2027.
The company previously referred to the Ioniq P name during its Q3 2026 analyst call. The new electric SUV carries the internal codename HE1i and will sit below the Creta Electric in Hyundai’s lineup.
It will target buyers looking for an affordable electric SUV with modern technology, a practical cabin and advanced safety features.
Hyundai Ioniq P: Design and Features
The upcoming Hyundai Ioniq P has appeared in several spy shots during testing in India. It features a boxy and upright SUV design with a relatively short overall length.
The exterior gets distinctive LED lighting elements, dual-tone alloy wheels and a practical body profile. Spy images have also revealed 360-degree cameras and other exterior details.
The compact electric SUV is expected to offer a spacious cabin despite its sub-4-metre dimensions. Hyundai has confirmed that the new model will feature a next-generation infotainment system and Level 2 ADAS.
The infotainment system could use the company’s Pleos Connect interface, although Hyundai has not confirmed the final equipment list.
Hyundai Ioniq P: Battery, Powertrain and Range
The Hyundai Ioniq P is expected to arrive with two battery pack options, including a 42kWh standard-range unit and a 51.4kWh long-range unit. The electric SUV could share its battery and motor technology with the Kia Syros EV.
The smaller battery version could offer a claimed range of around 443km, while the larger battery pack could deliver up to 526km on a single charge. These figures and powertrain specifications remain unconfirmed.
Hyundai is expected to offer front-wheel-drive configurations. The company may initially source battery cells from overseas suppliers before shifting to locally manufactured cells at a later stage.
Hyundai Ioniq P: Safety and Technology
The upcoming Hyundai Ioniq P will focus on modern safety and connectivity features. Hyundai has confirmed Level 2 ADAS technology for the new electric SUV. This package could include advanced driver assistance functions such as lane-keeping assistance and adaptive cruise control.
Spy images have also revealed 360-degree cameras, which should help drivers during parking and manoeuvring in tight spaces. The cabin will get a next-generation infotainment system, potentially featuring Hyundai’s Pleos Connect interface.
The electric SUV is expected to offer multiple airbags, electronic stability control and other standard safety equipment. However, Hyundai has not revealed the complete safety equipment list yet.
